APUSH CURICULAR SECTION 1-7 REVIEW MATERIAL

As of today (Friday 20 March):

1. The AP Exam will be adminsitered online in two separate tests. Dates of these tests will be released on 3 April.

2. The Exam will consist of a 45 minute Free Response question. I know: what fun!

3. The Exam will only cover curricular sections 1-7 (1492-1945); this may change on 3 April. With that in mind, here is a copy of the curricluar guidelines from the APUSH Curriculum Guide.

3.  We will proceed with the class from a perspective of covering the items that will be tested. Like I've previously told you guys, everything we do from here on in is from the perspective of ESSAY!!

TUESDAY 31 MARCH

Part of the expectation this week is that you familiarize yourself with the Section 6 Curricular Guide (located in the above "Resorces" section).  Your weekly assignment should reflect your familarization of this guide. Today, I want you guys to go through the guide and start anwering the guided questions. Both of these were provided to me by College Board and the APUSH people, so its a good bet that the contents are important.

REMEMBER: YOU'RE MAKING YOUR OWN STUDY GUIDE HERE, and when you consider you're gonna have to know something covering the years 1492-1950, its to your advantage to make it easy on yourself. THAT'S THE GUIDING PURPOSE OF THESE EXPECTATIONS.

I will re-post the guide and questions for your convenience.

APRIL FOOLS!

WEDNESDAY 1 APRIL

Today we will be looking at the conclusion part of our essays. We will be utilizing a "cuase and effect" dynamic on the essays with what AP labels "Pre- and Post-Contextualization." Sounds worse than it is. Watch the PowerPoint and take a look at the example. Your assignment for next week MUST have this to recieve credit.

This is an example of how pre- and post-contextualization should work to introduce and conclude an essay

Don't worry about a full introduction, I just want to see if you get the dynamic and re;relationship between pre-and post contextualization.

THURSDAY 2 APRIL

GUYS: View these videos from the perspective of the curricular guide and questions.

Use the curriculum guide to develop a perspective about the subjects of these videos. I would like you to take notes over various topics which may embellish and expound upon what we have talked about in class; I am going to look for evidence of such in your assignments.

AGAIN . . . You're making your own study guide here. I'm just saying . . .

FRIDAY 3 APRIL

These videos are intended to give you a sense of other perspectives. The two today examine the perspective of African Amercians, the one group who gained constitutionally-guaranteed freedom but found it elusive. That's a powerful dynamic when considering the promise of Amercia.

Only 9 or so minutes, but really good. Ex-slaves talking about their lives post-emancipation.
